El vicepresidente de ingeniería de Tesla dice que el modelo E, será el económico, costará unos 30.000$, será un 20% más pequeño que el modelo S, lo abaratarán entre otras cosas sustituyendo piezas de aluminio por acero, que la giga-fábrica de baterías será determinante para bajar el precio del vehículo y que se espera esté listo para finales de 2016, principios de 2017, y que competirá con el Audi A4 y BMW serie.

Lo de las fechas,creo entender que no es una de las cosas que dijo textualmente este señor, sino que lo supone el redactor de la página.

Creo que apenas dice nada nuevo, pero bueno, vamos "confirmando" cosas y en cierto modo viendo que lo tienen todo en el punto de vista y acabará por llegar el modelo económico, mucho antes de lo que otros fabricantes querrían.

Me quedo con la frase que dice este señor cuando le preguntar por el potencial de crecimiento de Tesla, responde: "Cuando tienes el coche adecuado, no importa si es eléctrico". Que tomen nota todos los fabricantes de quema-petróleos!

Musk revealed why he had to have a rethink on the name.

"We had the model S for sedan and X for crossover SUV, then a friend asked what we were going to call the third car," Musk told us. "So I said we had the model S and X, we might as well have the E.

"We were going to call it model E for a while and then Ford sued us saying it wanted to use the Model E – I thought this is crazy, Ford's trying to kill sex! So we'll have to think of another name.

"The new model is going to be called Model 3, we'll have three bars to represent it and it'll be S III X!"

The new car is rumoured to be about 20% smaller than the Model S and our image shows how it could look. Key to the new model, which Musk said should retail for around $35,000 (likely to equate to around £30,000 in the UK), is cheaper battery technology made possible by Tesla's forthcoming Gigafactory.

This new plant will produce batteries for all Tesla models, plus customers (rumoured to include Mercedes and Nissan) and a stationary storage programme to store energy from solar and wind farms. A decision on the location of the new Gigafactory is imminent, with US states Nevada, Arizona, California, New Mexico and Texas all in the running.

Musk also confirmed that he expected the new car to have a realistic range of over 200 miles with strong performance, like the Model S. "We want people to fall in love with their car and look forward to driving it," he told us.

It's a recipe that's obviously working – Musk plans to sell around 35,000 cars this year, but the Model III is likely to propel sales well into six figures by the end of this decade.

Tesla Roadster to get range boost

Tesla's very first car, the Roadster, was based on a lightweight Lotus Elise chassis and launched back in 2008. Its range of 245 miles is still pretty impressive, but Tesla boss Elon Musk is planning an upgrade for owners that will see that range increase to about 400 miles.

"The Roadster had an old generation battery," he told us. "We'll upgrade it to a new generation battery pack and it should have a range of about 400 miles, which will allow you to drive from LA to San Francisco non-stop."

200 millas,aproximadamente 322kms. no está nada mal para este modelo de entrada podríamos decir de TESLA.Supongo será la versión de 60Kwh y que espero que como opción haya otras de mas capacidad.Pues seguimos esperando el pistoletazo de salida,llamesé momento en que te permitan hacer ya ¨prereservas¨,que supongo será en la 2ª mitad del 2015 como pronto.

$35,000, se puede reservar en Marzo, pero hasta el 2017 no estará en la calle, necesitan la Gigafactoría de baterías en marcha y a pleno rendimiento.

Tesla ha arrancado el mes de septiembre con mucha fuerza. Elon Musk, a través de su cuenta de Twitter, ha confirmado estas dos fechas y los 35.000 dólares que costará el Model 3, para el que todavía tendremos que esperar un par de años.

Quien va a reservar en marzo (si se puede desde españistan, claro)? Yo hasta 1000€ creo que llego. Así estoy entretenido un par de años. Ya no recuerdo cuanto fue lo del Leaf.

Ya está cambiado el título. Sin saber el precio definitivo en Europa quizá es un poco arrriesgado reservar.

El Model S 70 kWh cuesta en EEUU según el configurador 76.200 $, en Europa 68.900 € + IVA.

El Model 3 podría costar desde 38.000 € IVA incluido, probablemente habrá paridad EUR/USD.
